is it true that my instant ink cartridges will stop working immediately after I cancel the plan even though I have ink still in the printer?

Yes. Once you cancel a subscription ink cartridges stop working no matter if they are full of ink.

Thanks for the help on losing out on the ink in my machine if I cancel the plan.  I am still trying to figure out if it 

is cost effective to stay with the plan or go on my own.  My usage is generally low but has lots of high spots.
