@pinkheaven,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

According to the manufacturer (HP Team): https://www.amazon.com/HP-Cartridges-Magenta-3HZ96AN-3HZ97AN/dp/B07MCYDD62, all HP962 inks are pigment-based -at least on August 10th, 2021:

Hope this was helpful.

I did find out that the inks for 962 (probably the other model's inks also) are:  Black is pigment ink and colors are dye...so anyone wanting to do photo transferring you may be able to get an image that is more of a distressed look, but not a completely sharp image.

@pinkheaven,

Yes, I saw this claim, but never any 'official' HP links to back it up.

What I do know, is to avoid dye-based inks, as mentioned here, quote:

"A pigmented ink like this one is essential for quality results and for the proper functioning of your printheads. A dye-based ink can cause pigment coagulation which can ruin your printheads. We no longer advise the use of dye-based inks in these cartridges."

Many secondary links selling HP 962 color (non-black) cartridges also refer to the dye formulation as "HP pigment inks", such as here: HP 962 (3HZ97AN) Original Standard Yield Inkjet Ink Cartridge - Magenta - 1 Each | LB Office.
