I am experiencing an issue with my HP Smart Tank Plus 559 printer. Despite having a full black ink tank, the printer is not printing properly. The printed documents have lines missing, and the black ink appears faint or incomplete.

I have tried troubleshooting the issue by following the recommended steps, including printhead cleaning and alignment, but the problem persists.

Could you please provide further assistance or advice on how to resolve this issue? I would appreciate any guidance you can offer.

Thank you for your help.

Hi @Amaan1223,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Smart Tank Plus 559 printer is experiencing issues with black ink not printing properly despite having a full ink tank, here are several additional troubleshooting steps you can take:

1. Run Print Quality Diagnostic:

  • Use the printer’s built-in diagnostic tools to print a quality report. This can help identify specific issues with the printhead or ink flow.

2. Perform a Deep Cleaning:

  • If the standard printhead cleaning didn’t work, perform a deep cleaning. You can usually find this option in the printer settings or HP Smart app. Be aware that this will use more ink.

3. Check for Clogged Printhead:

  • Manually inspect the printhead for clogs. If you see any dried ink, you may need to clean the printhead with a soft, lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water.

4. Verify Ink Flow:

  • Remove the black ink tank and check for any obstructions in the ink delivery system. Make sure that the ink outlet is not clogged.

5. Ensure Correct Installation:

  • Double-check that the ink tank is installed correctly and that there are no issues with the connections.

6. Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer has the latest firmware. You can check for updates using the HP Smart app or the HP Support website.

7. Test Printing with Different Paper:

  • Sometimes, the type of paper can affect print quality. Try using a different paper type to see if it improves the output.

8. Check Settings for Color Options:

  • Ensure that the printer settings are configured to print in color if you want to use color inks to assist the black. Sometimes, printing with a mix of colors can improve the appearance of black.

9. Use Genuine HP Ink:

  • If you’re using third-party ink, consider switching back to genuine HP ink tanks, as compatibility issues can arise with other brands.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
