macOS 12.0 Monterey

I have an OfficeJet Pro 8600 printer. i am experiencing an issue with printer. Bought black ink cartridge for printer as printer displayed message stating it was empty. When i replaced Black cartridge said magenta cartridge appears to be damaged. Remove and replace with new cartridges. I then bought a magenta cartridge and installed  it in the printer and it now said black cartridge appears to be damaged. So I purchased a new Black cartridge and installed it and now a message on the printer states that the magenta cartridge is damaged. This cannot be the case so I am trying to see if anyone else has experienced the same issue and if there is anything I can do or if there is some software fix. Also, the printer is out of its 5 year warranty period, so HP will not offer service.

Hi @andyk123

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

Are you using HP genuine ink cartridges?

Update the firmware. Click here  to download and update the firmware. Restart the printer once done.

If the issue persists, try to reseat the print head 3 times. i.e remove the print head, close the door, and reinstall the print head. Repeat the process for 3 times and check.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Cheers
