Hi @Alisa1978,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet Pro 6978 printer is not printing black despite cleaning the print head, there are a few other troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check Ink Levels: Ensure that the black ink cartridge has sufficient ink. Low ink levels can sometimes cause printing issues.
  • Replace Ink Cartridge: If the ink level is low or if you suspect the cartridge may be faulty, try replacing the black ink cartridge with a new one. Sometimes cartridges can become clogged or malfunction.
  • Run Print Head Cleaning Utility: Most printers come with a built-in utility to clean the print heads. Run this utility again to see if it resolves the issue. You may need to run it multiple times for better results.
  • Print a Test Page: Print a test page to see if the issue persists. If the test page still doesn't print black, there may be a more serious hardware issue.
  • Check Printer Settings: Ensure that the printer settings are configured correctly. Sometimes, the printer may be set to print in grayscale or with certain color preferences that could affect the output.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Make sure you have the latest drivers and firmware installed for your printer. You can usually download these from the HP website.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 not printing black.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
