All I want is to align my printer. It's an HP Deskjet 3772. There is no option on my HP Smart app, OR online. What is happening? Why am I not allowed to run a test that my printer is suggesting??

@WHAT_A_JOKE, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It’s incredibly frustrating when a basic printer function like alignment is buried or missing especially when your HP DeskJet 3772 is explicitly asking for it. Let’s fix this step by step, even if HP Smart is being unhelpful.

Option 1: Use the Printer’s Physical Buttons

  1. Load plain white paper in the input tray.
  2. Press and hold both
    Power button
    Cancel (X) button
  3. While holding those, press the Copy Color button twice.
  4. Release all buttons.

Your printer should print an alignment page. If it does, place the page face down on the scanner and press the Copy Black button to complete alignment.

Option 2: Use Embedded Web Server (if printer is on Wi-Fi)

If your printer is on a network (not USB):

  1. Find the IP address of your printer:
Press and hold the Information button (i) until the Wireless and Resume lights blink. It prints a network configuration page with the IP.
  2. On your browser, enter that IP (e.g., http://192.168.1.42)
  3. This opens the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  4. Look for Settings > Printer Maintenance > Align Printer

Option 3: HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only)

If you’re on Windows:

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor:
Official HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows | Free Download hppsdr.exe
  2. Run it, select your printer, and go to Printer Toolbox.
  3. Choose Align Printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
