37A M607

We have been running HP printers since forever (or about the year 1989) and feel like I have a good idea about approximate page yield from a toner cartridge. I can understand the inability to offer an absolute yield due to the many variables that play into the ultimate capacity. We usually get a few more thousand pages over the stated yield. That makes me feel good 😉 And thanks for the link I came across explaining: https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c05515383

A while back, we started using a Laserjet M607 with the 37A toner cartridge (CF237A). If I understand correctly, the yield is advertised at ~11,000 pages. So, when the printer announces that the toner was getting low, I started to almost panic in order to get a backup cartridge on the shelf. I normally have one ready, but found out we had an incorrect cartridge as  a backup for this printer. The Supply Status Page indicated that we have printed over 15,000 pages.

I bought the correct cartridge and waited for printed pages to start fading due to toner running out. Well, the toner did run out, but only after 29,000 pages total! Since we have ran other HP printers for this department and the toner yield was much closer to advertised pages, I am assuming those variables (amount of toner per page, number of pages per job, etc) would be similar with the M607/37A setup.

Was the ~29,000 pages just an over-filled cartridge by mistake and we'll never see that again or is there a way to modify the printer to expect 20,000-25,000 pages when using the next 37A cartridge as far as the warning goes? Or......?

  Thanks.
