Hi, I have LaserJet M283fdw printer and just ran into some issues when I try printing some 4X6 photos. The photos are all came out with black horizontal fine lines and a light, faded color area in the center.
I print the same photo, one on 4X6 photo paper, one on normal A4 paper, and you can see the lines and the washout area on the 4X6.
The photo paper I used is “hp Everyday Photo Paper” 53lb 200g/m2 glossy. The toners are original ones.
I did see the photo paper has a line says Designed for INKJET printers. Could that be the reason? if so, which paper product do you recommend if I want to print photos using this Laserjet printer?
Thank you so much for your help!

Hi @Lydia_D,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the photo paper designed for inkjet printers might be contributing to the issue with your HP LaserJet M283fdw. Laser printers and inkjet printers use different technologies, and photo paper designed specifically for inkjets might not always produce optimal results on a laser printer.
Here are a few suggestions to address the problem:
- Use Laser Printer Photo Paper: Look for photo paper specifically designed for laser printers. This type of paper is treated to handle the heat of the laser printing process and should produce better results. HP makes photo papers compatible with laser printers, such as the HP Professional Glossy or HP Premium Glossy Laser Paper.
- Check Printer Settings: Ensure your printer settings are optimized for photo printing. Sometimes selecting a photo or high-quality print setting can help improve the output.
- Check for Toner Issues: Although you mentioned using original toners, sometimes toner cartridges or the imaging drum can cause issues like lines or fading. Ensure they are installed correctly and consider performing a toner calibration or cleaning process.
- Paper Type and Quality: Verify that the paper is suitable for laser printers. Even though it’s designed for inkjets, it may not necessarily be the root cause, but using paper specifically designed for laser printers is the best approach.
- Run a Printer Maintenance Cycle: Perform any maintenance tasks recommended by the printer’s manual, such as cleaning the drum or rollers.
For your LaserJet printer, using photo paper intended for laser printers should help resolve the issue with lines and fading. If you continue to experience problems, you might also want to check if there are any firmware updates for your printer that could address printing quality issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden, Thank you so much for the reply. I ordered a pack of glossy brochure paper that is designed for Laser printer and it worked. It's not super vivid like a ink printer but the quality is good enough. At least there is no weird lines or off-color areas anymore. So I guess the major cause in my case is the paper printer incompatibility. Thank you so much for your help again.
I couldn't find the kudos button...So I wanted to thank you and "kudos" by replying the post. Have a great day!
