According to this page (which specifically lists the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479 as an applicable printer) I should be able to change the Print Quality settings to Econo Mode, Normal, or Fine Lines: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06305195
However, in the actual Paper/Quality tab of the printer preferences, the Print Quality dropdown is disabled, and cannot be changed from Normal.
The printer automatically installed the HP Color LaserJet Pro M478f-9f PCL-6 (V4) and I have also installed the HP Smart app--nothing has allowed to select the options that are shown on the document above.
I would very much like to be able to change the quality settings as described on the support document, but can find no way to do so.

You can try the HP Universal print driver however I assisted another user and they only had 2 options for quality not three after doing that.
I am a volunteer, offering my knowledge to support fellow users, I do not work for HP nor speak for HP.

Thank you for the reply. I actually did try both the Universal PCL and the Universal PS driver, and the best I can get is enabling the Econo Mode quality, but I need/want the "Fine Lines" options, which the Universal drivers don't seem to enable.

I opened a support ticket, explained my situation, and just got a very unhelpful response saying that I can use the Universal drivers (which don't allow me to choose a better quality), but if I wanted to use the recommended software (presumably the drivers for the M479) that I should contact Windows support.
Do the drivers get tested before the documentation is created? Does the M479 really support the modes described in the documentation?

Yeah, I just bought this printer and it doesn't allow me to select any other print qualities, it's just grayed out. I want to set eco mode for general printing. It just showing normal print quality and the drop down menu is grayed out. I'm using PCL 6 version 4 drivers.
