Asus laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I am trying to install the drivers and/or communicate with a HP LaserJet Pro 400 color Printer M451 series on a Windows 10 laptop with a direct USB connection.

I have down loaded the following drivers from the website: (LJM351_M451_Series-15188-drv_installer) (LJM351_M451_Series-15188-full_solution) (Diagnostic Tool HPPSdr) (M350_M450_color_Series_FirmWare_Update-20150126) and (Universal Print Driver Pack park-v1.8.0) The Diagnostic Tool "sees" my printer, however when I select it and click NEXT, I get "Unsuccessful communications with your selected product.)  I have followed the steps indicated, yet cannot print.  The printer does show up when I try to print, yet just sits there as if no command has been sent/received.  When plugging the USB plug in or out, I do get the audio signal that the computer knows what I have done.  When I try to install the software, it takes 20 minutes, hesitates at 99% for a couple minutes and fails with: An install operation took too long to execute. This is a fatal error preventing product use.

Make sure you have any malware or antivirus disabled when you go to install.

Thanks. I did that even turning off some windows defender protection. I'm still getting error 49. I removed the extra memory I had put into the printer, restarted everything . Still no luck. I've been trying to upload the new firmware but it wont take and when I try to print the config settings directly from the printer I get an error 49 and it won't print.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Is the firmware on the printer up to date?

I was unable to update the printer because it wasn't connecting.

However, I solved the problem.

There seemed to have been a myriad of issues.

First, I reset the settings on the printer on the control panel. That calmed it down a bit (the blue light stopped blinking).

Then I went into my Printers and saw that something funky was happening when I was installing the HP printer, it was saying it was a Cannon, which I also have. I thought maybe I had mixed up the usb wires (which I keep connected to the Cannon for scanning). But I hadn't. and there were several of these weird printers installed.

So I deleted all the funky printer installations, there were several.

Then I thought that my new mesh router might just be too advanced for my version of windows, which is 10 but might need updating. So I went to Windows update and sure enough there were 3 updates waiting to happen. So I downloaded and installed those, then I had to restart again and when I did it by some miracle the correct printer came up as installed.

Then I was able to connect to the printer correctly. I immediately updated the firmware. Then I installed the entire software package through the USB, setting up the wireless connection etc. and we are back in business!! Everything is working great.

So I think the keys were:

1-Resetting the settings in the printer

2-Deleting bad printer installs

3-Updating windows

4-Restarting

Thanks for your suggestions as well.
