HP OfficeJet Pro 6978
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Good morning,

I own a HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer which five (5) days ago "ran out" of black ink. (I was using a Cartridge World 902XLK black cartridge in my printer.) I inserted a replacement Cartridge World 902XLK cartridge in the printer and the printer rejected the cartridge. I tried a second replacement Cartridge World 902XLK cartridge in the printer and this was rejected also. I learned that Hewlett Packard installed software on our printers rejecting ALL non Hewlett Packard printer cartridges. Where in the law does Hewlett Packard have the "legal right" to force us to purchase only Hewlett Packard cartridges for printers that we own? If you know the answer to this question then please cite the law, code, etc. Thank you.

Yours truly,

Doug Olson

@DougOlson, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
