I cancelled my instant ink subscription and I want to pass my printer on to a very deserving/needy person. She is really happy to be given the printer but she can’t afford to sign up for instant ink subscription. She will buy genuine cartridges but only when she can afford to.

I currently have the printer and I can’t show her it’s working as it won’t now allow me to print as it’s “blocked” due to cancellation of subscription!

If I take this to her will this printer work once she’s bought new cartridges?

I would be very grateful if someone could help me on this. I’ll but her first cartridges but only if I’m sure the printer will work for her?

T.I.A.

Kind regards

David

@davidwm1, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query.

Thank you for reaching out, and thank you for your generosity in passing your printer along to someone in need!

Since you've canceled your Instant Ink subscription and are using Instant Ink cartridges, the printer will currently show as "blocked" because it's expecting Instant Ink cartridges. However, once you install genuine, non-Instant Ink cartridges, the printer will work just fine without any issues.

Before you pass the printer on, I recommend you remove the account that’s currently linked to the printer. This can be done by going to your HP account settings and unlinking the device. This ensures that the new owner won’t run into any problems when they set the printer up with their own account.

Once you install the new cartridges and ensure the account is unlinked, the printer should be good to go! I’m sure your friend will really appreciate the printer, and she’ll be able to start using it as soon as she’s able to afford the cartridges.

If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out!

Take care and have a good day.
