Hello. I have a problem with my HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw. Recent I have found that my printer is on low toner, and it's seems this problem is preventing my printer to do anything else, including scanning. Is this a true thing? (most of the time I've tried to scan it always said the printer is not available, even when I have already plug in a connection wire)

Hi @Nick95112,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It's possible that your printer's low toner situation is indeed affecting its ability to perform other functions like scanning. Some printers, particularly multifunction printers like yours, may halt all operations when they detect low toner to prevent potential damage or poor print quality. This could include scanning functions, as the printer may prioritize toner-related alerts over other tasks.
To confirm whether the low toner is causing the scanning issue, you can try the following steps.
- Replace Toner Cartridges: If your printer indicates low toner, it's a good idea to replace the toner cartridges first. This should eliminate the low toner condition and potentially resolve the scanning issue.
- Restart Printer: Sometimes, restarting the printer can reset any error conditions and restore its functionality. Turn off the printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on.
- Check Connection: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer or network. If you're using a wired connection, make sure the cable is securely plugged in at both ends. If you're using a wireless connection, ensure that the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
- Update Drivers and Software: Make sure that your printer drivers and software are up to date. Sometimes outdated drivers can cause compatibility issues with scanning functions.
- Check Printer Settings: Review the printer settings on both the printer itself and your computer. Ensure that scanning functions are enabled and properly configured.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
