Product: HP Color LaserJet Pro M454dw
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11
My color laserjet pro m453 only prints in half tones. This started after a Windows 10 update and I couldn't fix the problem. (I also have a Brother printer that started printing in halftones.) My computer was old, so I just bought a new computer with windows 11. The HP printer still will only print in halftones but the Brother printer is printing fine. What is the problem with the HP printer and how do I fix it? On the color management screen, there is only an option for half tones or ray tones.

Hello Jo1963,
For these type of print quality issues we recommend the following:
- Make sure your printer is connected directly to the power outlet.
- If you have another computer, you can try to print from there and compare results.
- Try an engine test: you keep the button to open the door to get access to the toners pressed , and rapidly open and close such door 4 times then release the button. The printer should print something like a grid.
- Also you can print some internal reports from the printer itself or from the printer's Embedded Web Server: if printouts come fine from there, the problem is not the printer but something driver related on your computer.
- You can install the Universal Print Driver (UPD for short) and test. UPD is located in https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-universal-print-driver-series-for-windows/415732... . In you case you can go with the HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PCL6 (64-bit)
