M478 Laser Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Does the M479 not support using thick cardstock, and why does the printer say close back door whenever I open it to prevent using the normal paper exit path?

You can't open the back door on this printer and print, there is only one paper exit and that one is on the top under the scanner.

Maximum weight for plain paper is 176 gsm on M479 everything above that will jam.

I find this hard to believe.  This back door looks exactly like one you d expect if you were printing on a thick piece of cardstock and didnt want to use the upper exit; also, why did they design the back door escape to look exactly like a normal manual printing door you would drop down so your material does NOT go to the upper escape area?  I call BS on this.  I think if one were to trip the microswitch(s) to fool the printer into thinking the door is closed, it would exit the cardstock without incident and there should be no jam because the paper has exited.  You see.. there is NO reason to use the upper exit area because the item has already been printed so what is the harm in exiting out the back of the printer?

That is not possible on M479 because the position of the fuser is more above back exit and if you would trip the microswitch the paper would go straight but not to fuser and printer would report a paper jam.
