HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw

My MPF M277dw recently started printing photos and text very lightly and with lines. The quality is very poor. This just started happening randomly. Nothing of note has changed.

I am using HP brand Laser Jet paper (HEW113100)

I am using a new and full set HP brand Laser Jet toner cartridges (HP 201A)

I have tried a number of different types of paper. I have also tried a new set of HP toner. I have reset all printer settings in case there was an incorrect paper or quality setting in the print settings. This happens both with B&W and color. B&W shows very faded. Color shows very light and washed out. In both cases, there are vertical lines. I did install the latest update on the printer about 1 week ago (through the printer's touch screen).

Any ideas on why this could be happening? I have had such good luck with HP printers before, but this is very frustrating!

Hi @DasSoulman,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about the printing issues you're experiencing with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem.

Check Toner Cartridges:

  • Ensure that the toner cartridges are securely installed. Remove them and reinsert them carefully to make sure they are properly seated.
  • Verify that the toner cartridges are not empty or low on toner.

Clean the Printer:

  • Use a lint-free cloth to clean the paper path and rollers inside the printer. Dust and debris can sometimes cause print quality issues.

Calibrate the Printer:

  • Many printers have a calibration function in the settings. Refer to your printer's manual on how to calibrate it. Calibration can help align the print heads and improve print quality.

Check Paper Settings:

  • Ensure that the paper type and size settings in the printer match the settings of the paper you are using. Incorrect settings can lead to poor print quality.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Confirm that you have the latest firmware installed on your printer. Sometimes, firmware updates can address printing issues.

Print a Quality Diagnostic Page:

  • Most printers have a diagnostic or quality test page that you can print. This page often contains patterns and colors that can help you identify issues with specific colors or print elements.

Run a Cleaning Cycle:

  • Some printers have a cleaning cycle that can be run to clean the print heads. Refer to your printer manual to find out how to initiate a cleaning cycle.

Check for Vertical Lines:

  • If there are persistent vertical lines, it could indicate an issue with the drum or imaging unit. Check the user manual for instructions on inspecting or cleaning these components.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
