I have two MFP M283cdw printers. I replaced all four toner cartridges in printer #1 with genuine HP parts. That printer no longer prints RED (or sometimes just the slightest hint of RED). Swapping the Magenta toner cartridges between the two printers makes no difference. Both the new and old Magenta cartridges work well in printer #2 but neither cartridge works in printer #1. The HP Virtual Assistant provided no real assistance.
Is this a common or well know problem? Any suggestions on how to fix the issue?

Hi @JimMat,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue. The problem of a specific color, like red, not printing correctly can be due to several factors, especially with a color laser printer like the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw. Here are some steps you can try to diagnose and potentially fix the issue.
Check Print Quality Settings:
- Access the printer's settings and make sure the print quality is set to a higher level. Sometimes, lower settings can affect color output.
Run a Print Quality Diagnostic:
- Most HP printers have a built-in diagnostic tool. This can help identify if there are any issues with the toner or printer itself. Look for options like "Print Quality Report" or "Print Configuration Page."
Clean the Printer:
- Dust and debris can accumulate in the printer and affect print quality. Use the printer’s maintenance menu to perform a cleaning cycle, which might help clear any blockages in the toner path.
Inspect the Imaging Drum:
- The imaging drum could be the culprit if it's damaged or worn out. Make sure it's in good condition and seated properly.
Firmware Update:
- Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer. Sometimes, updates can resolve issues like these.
Service Mode:
- Some users have found success by accessing service mode and resetting the printer. This can sometimes clear persistent issues. Consult the user manual for instructions on how to access this mode.
This isn’t an uncommon issue with color printers, especially if they have been used heavily.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried most of these suggestions but without noticeable improvement. The main thing I haven't done is 'inspect the imaging drum.' I'm not sure how to access or inspect the drum. I'll try an internet search for details.
