When printing, the left side of my sheet is the correct color, where the right is not. I have cleaned the roller, replaced all ink, and have updated my firmware. What am I missing?

Hi @36eleven,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer printing unevenly!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw has an issue with uneven toner distribution, likely caused by one of the following:

1. Check & Clean the Imaging Drum (Transfer Belt)

  • Open the printer’s front cover and remove the toner cartridges.
  • Locate the imaging drum/transfer belt (it sits behind the toners).
  • Check for toner buildup or streaks. Wipe gently with a dry, lint-free cloth.

2. Print a Diagnostic Page

  • On the printer touchscreen:
Setup > Reports > Print Quality Report
  • Look for any fading, banding, or incorrect colors—this helps pinpoint the faulty component.

3. Manually Align the Print Heads

  • Setup > Tools > Align Printer
  • If misalignment is the issue, this should correct it.

4. Check the Fuser Unit

  • If only one side is affected, the fuser (heating unit) may be faulty.
  • Go to Setup > Reports > Print Supplies Status—see if the fuser is near the end of its life.

5. Try Different Paper & Settings

  • Go to Printer Preferences > Paper Type and select the correct type (e.g., Plain, Glossy).
  • Test with different paper—some lower-quality paper doesn’t hold toner evenly.

If the problem persists after these steps, your transfer belt or fuser might need replacement. Let me know what the Print Quality Report shows, and I’ll guide you further! 😊

I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?"—your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀
