Hi @Cookie122

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for replacing the magenta cartridge and sharing the exact error. The “Supply System Problem” message after installing a new HP 962 cartridge in your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018e typically points to a cartridge recognition or contact issue.

Let’s walk through a few precise steps to help your printer detect the new cartridge and resume printing.

1. Power Reset the Printer

This refreshes the printer’s internal memory and can clear false cartridge errors.

  • With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the rear.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then into the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on if it doesn’t power up automatically.

2. Reinstall the Magenta Cartridge

Let’s ensure the cartridge is seated properly and the contacts are clean.

  • Open the ink cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop moving.
  • Gently press the magenta cartridge to release it, then remove it.
  • Inspect the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer. If you see any ink or debris, gently clean them using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Let the contacts dry for a minute.
  • Reinsert the magenta cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.
  • Close the access door and check the display.

3. Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause supply recognition issues.

  • On your printer’s control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard.
  • Tap Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer > Check for Updates Now.
  • If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to install it.

4. Reset the Supply Memory (if prompted)

If the printer offers an option to “Use Cartridge” or “Continue,” select it. This can bypass the error and allow printing.

5. Use the HP App to Check Cartridge Status

  • Open the HP App on your Windows PC or mobile device.
  • Select your printer, then go to Supplies.
  • Check if the magenta cartridge is detected and showing ink levels.

If the issue persists after these steps, you may try installing another cartridge if available, or rechecking the packaging to confirm the cartridge is not defective.

Let’s get your vibrant magenta flowing again. Let me know how it goes after these steps.
