I have tried aligning cartridge multiple times and have used a new cartridge to the same result. Only magenta is printing off center. Any ideas to get this corrected?

Hi @Maxwell523

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing the image and the detailed description. I see that the Magenta color is clearly shifted left, while all other colors are aligned properly. Since you've already:

Tried multiple alignments

Replaced the magenta cartridge with a new one

…and the issue persists only with magenta, it points to a printhead alignment or hardware-level printhead issue.

Here's what you can do next:

1. Perform a Full Printhead Cleaning

Sometimes deeper clogs or ink buildup can cause channel misalignment, especially for a single color.

On your printer, go to:
Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead

Choose "Second-level" or "Deep Clean" if available.

Repeat the cleaning up to 2–3 times, allowing the printer to rest between attempts.

Run the Print Quality Diagnostic page again to compare results.

2. Reset the Printer (Power Reset)

This clears temporary glitches that may affect head positioning.

Turn the printer on.

With the printer still on, unplug it from the wall outlet.

Wait at least 60 seconds.

Plug it back in and turn it on.

Then run alignment again:

Go to Printer Maintenance > Align Printhead

3. Update Firmware

Misalignment can sometimes be caused by firmware bugs.

Visit: HP Software & Driver Downloads

Search for your model: HP ENVY Inspire 7220e All-in-One

Download and install the latest firmware.

Restart and re-run alignment.

4. Check Ink Smearing or Blockage (Visual Inspection)

If you're comfortable:

Open the access door.

With the printer off, gently move the printhead carriage to the center (if it moves freely).

Check for any ink buildup, bent contact pins, or obstructions near the magenta nozzle.

Do not touch the nozzles or internal parts directly—just inspect visually.

Let me know how the results look after cleaning and re-alignment—I'm here to help further if needed.

I have done all 4 steps, and I'm still getting the same result. No visible blockages or obstructions

Hi,

Thank you for the response.

Since the previous agent is away at the moment, I'll be assisting you further.

Let’s try a few advanced steps before concluding it’s a hardware-level fault:

1. Perform a Manual Printhead Reseating

If your printer model uses a removable printhead (not just ink cartridges):

Power off the printer and disconnect it from power.

Open the cartridge access door.

Carefully remove all cartridges.

Gently lift and reseat the printhead (check your printer’s manual for specific instructions).

Reinstall the cartridges, close the access door, and power the printer back on.

Run Align Printhead again.

2. Run a Color Bars Test (Diagnostic Page)

On the printer menu: Setup > Printer Reports > Print Quality Report.

Check if the magenta bar appears shifted compared to cyan/yellow/black.
If it’s consistently shifted, this confirms the magenta nozzle alignment is physically off inside the printhead.

3. Try “Partial Reset”

This clears deeper calibration data from the printer.

With the printer ON, unplug the power cord from the back.

Hold down # + 3 (on printers with a keypad; otherwise Cancel + Color Copy) while plugging the power cord back in.

Keep holding until the printer powers on.

Re-run alignment and test again.

I hope this helps.
