HP OfficeJet 6962 All-in-One Printer

I bought new HP cartridges from Costco yesterday. Repeatedly getting error message "One or more cartridges is missing or damaged"... The magenta cartridge is not recognized. Have tried all fixes noted on help pages - unplug and restart, reinsert cartridges, upgrade firmware, cleaned contacts. I'm out of ideas. Help! Thx Colin

****SOLVED**** - I turned off the printer and let it sit for about an hour. Turned it back on and it seems to be ok now. Weird, but happy.

Hi @4793,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I understand that you are facing issues with cartridge errors.

Perform the following tasks in the order given. Use the printer after each task to see if the issue is resolved.

Check the ink cartridges

  • Make sure the cartridge model numbers match your printer and country/region, and then check that they are correctly installed.
  • Open the door or lid to the cartridge access area. Wait until the carriage stops moving before continuing.
  • Check the cartridge labels and compare with the list of compatible cartridges for your printer in Which cartridges work with my HP printer?.
  • If you saw the error after moving your printer from one country/region to another, you might not find ink cartridges with the number you used to buy. In some cases, you need to contact HP Support for a regionalization reset.
  • If your printer is enrolled in Instant Ink, the cartridges should be marked Instant Ink. The numbers may be different from the cartridges available from retailers, but your printer is designed to work with Instant Ink cartridges. See Solve problems with Instant Ink cartridges and enrolled printers for more help with Instant Ink cartridge errors.
  • If you have an HP+ printer, see Can't print on an HP+ or Instant Ink enrolled printer for more help.
  • NOTE:
  • HP+ printers require Original HP cartridges.
  • Replace any incompatible cartridges. Go to the HP Store to purchase compatible cartridges.
  • Make sure the label on the ink cartridge matches the label on the carriage.
  • Making sure the cartridge is in the correct slot
  • Make sure all the cartridges are firmly seated. If a cartridge is sticking out farther than the others, press it down until it snaps down.
  • If the cartridge does not snap down, gently bend the tab away from the cartridge no more than 1.27 cm (0.5 in), and try again.
  • Bending out the tab on the cartridge
  • Close the door or lid to the cartridge access area, and then follow the instructions to align the printer if prompted.

If you have performed all the steps from this document and still having issues, then either the cartridge is faulty or the printer needs to be checked.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
