How do I maximise colour photo print resolution from OfficeJet Pro 7720 (on HP Premium Plus Glossy photo paper)? Specifications say it is capable of 1200 x 1200 dpi but my colour photos look low-resolution, even when I select "max dpi enabled". Colour reproduction is good but images very grainy and fine details are lost.

Hi,
Please make sure you select the correct paper setting for either the driver and the printer itself.
Open and close the Paper Tray and evaluate the shown prompt, ensure the correct paper type is selected, try selecting Other Glossy Inkjet Papers or HP Photo Papers and check what provides better results for your photo.
From the driver, make sure to select the paper type for the print job as well, then try checking for any difference with Maximum DPI Enabled or without it, but with Best Print Quality.
hope that may help,
Shlomi

Thanks for replying! When I open paper tray, the printer displays paper type options including "Photo Paper" and "Speciality Paper, Glossy" which seems to give very slightly better results. Printing from Corel Paintshop Pro, the paper quality selection menu of the HP PCL3 B-size Printer Class Driver lets me specify "HP Premium Plus Photo Papers" - I can only specify glossy on the printer menu. There is no "Other Glossy Inkjet Papers" option and the "Other Glossy Brochure" option is incompatible with max dpi enabled. No combination seems to give anything like the print resolution I was getting with my previous (Epson) printer, so I'm quite disillusioned with the 5-star rating (better than any Epson printer) given by Which magazine to this HP printer for photo print quality! I was wondering if there is a higher-spec printer driver I should have downloaded since the May 2020 Windows update?

A Class Driver would not provide the same results as the manufacturer driver.
Please try following below specific version of the HP Print and Scan Doctor Utility by selecting your printer:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe
Be sure to restart your PC and allow the utility to complete the process, then check for any difference.
Try printing and check for any change, if the same remains try printing using the newly added print queue copy (Copy1) and check for any difference.

What is a "Class driver"? I thought this was the manufacturer's driver, as it's called HP PCL3... The printer was bought 2 years ago and set up about 1 year ago, using the driver supplied with it on manufacturer's disk. Any recent change to the driver has been the result of using our existing HP Print and Scan Doctor to update software to restore lost communication between printer and PC. I don't see how this could have resulted in having a driver that is not HP's own. Will the link you have given me install a new driver or patch this one?
