I pulled a cartridge to check its number, reinstalled. Now I get an error Message: printer head problem, incorrectly installed, I did the reinstall, turn off and on. Still the same message. The printer has a few more day until warranty expires. I rather fix the problem than go through the hassle of returning it - Bruce <><

@JediDad07, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're seeing a "Printhead problem, incorrectly installed" error after checking a cartridge, and you'd prefer to resolve this yourself before your warranty expires. Let's walk through the steps to troubleshoot and hopefully fix this issue.
Reset the Printer
This can often clear temporary errors:
- Turn off the printer using the power button.
- Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips).
- Turn the printer back on.
Reinstall the Cartridges Properly
- Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop moving.
- Remove all cartridges carefully.
- Reinsert each cartridge firmly into its slot until it clicks into place.
- Close the access door and check if the error persists.
Check the Printhead Installation
If your printer has a removable printhead:
- Open the cartridge access area.
- Look for a latch on the carriage. If present, lift it.
- Gently remove the printhead by holding it at the sides.
- Lightly clean the electrical contacts with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.
- Reinsert the printhead and cartridges, close the latch, and power on the printer.
Check for Firmware Updates
- Go to HP Software and Driver Downloads.
- Enter your printer model and download any available firmware updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
