Hi @randy551,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The “Missing or Failed Printhead” error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 is a known issue and usually indicates a problem with the printhead's connection or functionality. Here’s how to fix it.

1. Reset the Printer

This clears temporary errors:

  1. Turn the printer on.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Unplug the cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the cord back into the wall, then into the printer.
  6. Turn the printer back on.

If the error persists, continue below.

2. Reseat the Printhead

This ensures proper contact between the printhead and the printer:

  1. Open the ink cartridge access door.
  2. Wait for the carriage to stop moving.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer (important for safety).
  4. Lift the carriage latch.
  5. Gently lift the printhead slightly, then reseat it firmly.
  6. Wiggle it left and right slightly to ensure good contact.
  7. Lower the latch and close the door.
  8. Reconnect the power and turn the printer on.

Repeat this process up to three times if needed.

3. Check for Ink or Debris

  • Remove the cartridges and inspect the printhead for dried inkdust, or debris.
  • Clean gently with a lint-free cloth and distilled water if needed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
