Hi @randy551,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
The “Missing or Failed Printhead” error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 is a known issue and usually indicates a problem with the printhead's connection or functionality. Here’s how to fix it.
1. Reset the Printer
This clears temporary errors:
- Turn the printer on.
- Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Unplug the cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the cord back into the wall, then into the printer.
- Turn the printer back on.
If the error persists, continue below.
2. Reseat the Printhead
This ensures proper contact between the printhead and the printer:
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Wait for the carriage to stop moving.
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer (important for safety).
- Lift the carriage latch.
- Gently lift the printhead slightly, then reseat it firmly.
- Wiggle it left and right slightly to ensure good contact.
- Lower the latch and close the door.
- Reconnect the power and turn the printer on.
Repeat this process up to three times if needed.
3. Check for Ink or Debris
- Remove the cartridges and inspect the printhead for dried ink, dust, or debris.
- Clean gently with a lint-free cloth and distilled water if needed.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
