I replaced my black ink cartidge with an HP cartridge. I have a HP OfficeJet 4650. I get the message TThe indicated cartridges are not intended for use in this printer. I have wiped the contacts and powered off and on. No change. How can I fix this.

Hi @AJ-Tor ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One Printer displays the message "The indicated cartridges are not intended for use in this printer," it usually points to a compatibility or recognition issue with the ink cartridge.
Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Verify Cartridge Compatibility:
- Ensure that the cartridge is the correct model for the HP OfficeJet 4650. The compatible cartridges are typically HP 63, HP 63XL, or HP 63XXL (black and tri-color).
Reinstall the Cartridge:
- Open the printer cover and remove the ink cartridge.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Reinstall the ink cartridge securely in its slot.
Clean the Cartridge and Printer Contacts:
- Power off the printer.
- Use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the ink cartridge and inside the printer.
- Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridge.
Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Sometimes, updating the printer’s firmware can resolve compatibility issues. Go to the HP Support website, download the latest firmware for your printer model, and follow the instructions to install it.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn on the printer.
- While the printer is on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
- Turn the printer back on.
Check for Cartridge Authenticity:
- Ensure that the cartridge is a genuine HP product. Non-HP or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause recognition issues. Look for the holographic HP security seal to verify authenticity.
Try Another Cartridge:
- If possible, try using another new HP cartridge to determine if the issue is with the cartridge itself or the printer.
Reset the Printer:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to the Setup menu.
- Select Printer Maintenance.
- Choose Restore Defaults.
