I have tried recalibrating and cleaning and I cannot figure out how to reset firmware or take the next steps to improve the print quality for color printing. I did use non-HP toner at one point which is the likely culprit but I have since changed back and still cannot resolve it. Any thoughts? I'm out of warranty and don't want to have to buy another printer.

Thanks, Karen

Hi @KKGIL,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that your color prints are coming out blurry despite attempts at recalibration and cleaning, I would request you to please follow the steps:

Verify Paper and Print Quality Settings

  • Check Paper Type: Ensure that the paper type in the printer matches the paper type set in your print settings. You can do this by using the front panel controls.
  • Print Quality Settings: Make sure you are using the correct print-quality settings. For higher quality prints, set the Print Quality slider to 'Quality' instead of 'Speed'. You may also select the custom options and choose 'More Passes' for better results.

Align Printheads

  • Printhead Alignment: Check and align the printheads if the status is PENDING. This might help in fixing the blurry print issue.
  • Access Printhead Alignment: Use the front panel by going to the Ink menu icon and checking the printhead information. If alignment is required, proceed with aligning them.

Reset the Printer Firmware

  • Reset Firmware: If you suspect your printer's firmware could be causing issues, updating or resetting it might help. You can usually find firmware update options within the printer settings or by visiting HP's support page specific to your printer model.
  • Firmware Update Instructions: Find your printer model on the HP support site and follow the instructions provided to update or reset the firmware.

Calibration and Maintenance

  • Recalibrate Paper Advance: Perform a recalibration if the status indicates it is RECOMMENDED. This process involves using front-panel options to adjust the paper advance settings.
  • Calibration Details: Once on the front panel, choose Image-quality maintenance, follow the instructions to recalibrate and adjust the paper advance settings as necessary.

Take care and have an amazing day!
