Hi @Cathy92239,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your DeskJet 2852e is printing but skipping lines or leaving parts of the text blank. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Run the Print Quality Diagnostic report
Press and hold the Information (i) button until all lights come on, then release.
The printer will print a report — check if the colors or black areas look faded, streaked, or broken.

Clean the printhead using HP Smart
Open HP Smart → Printer Settings → Tools → Clean Printhead.
This clears clogged nozzles that commonly cause missing lines.
Run Level 1, and if needed, run Level 2.

Check ink levels
In HP Smart, confirm both cartridges have ink.
Low ink, especially in the black cartridge, will cause skipping or fading.

Re-seat the cartridges
Open the printer, remove both cartridges, and firmly reinstall them.
Poor electrical contact can cause intermittent printing.

Use plain white paper for testing
Moist, glossy, or old paper can cause the ink to skip.
Load 10–15 sheets of clean, plain, letter/A4 paper.

Align the printhead
In HP Smart → Tools → Align Printer.
Proper alignment helps where text appears uneven or missing at regular intervals.

Check for smudges or debris inside
Open the ink access door and confirm no paper scraps or dried ink are touching the carriage path.
A blocked carriage can make printing irregular.

Print a sample document again
After cleaning and aligning, try printing a simple text page.
If the print still skips, the black or tri-color cartridge may be defective and need replacement.

I hope this helps.
