The quality of same printed material from this time last year to this year has severely diminished. Both ink cartridges are full. I have a new HP Windows 11 PC as of January 1, so I thought this may be the issue. I reconnected the printer to my previous computer, an HP laptop, to see if the quality was as it had been. There is no change. I have run the Clean Print Head function and the other printer tools, but the former image crispness is just not there. what am I missing?

@Volunteer52, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP 4500!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like you’ve already ruled out a software or driver issue by testing with a different computer. Since the ink cartridges are full and you’ve run the Clean Print Head function, here are a few other things you can check:

1. Check for Clogged Nozzles

  • Run the Deep Cleaning function (if available) from the printer’s software.
  • Try printing a nozzle check pattern to see if all colors are printing properly.
  • If you see missing lines or faded colors, the printhead might still be clogged. You may need to manually clean it using distilled water and a lint-free cloth.

2. Use Genuine HP Cartridges

  • If you are using third-party or refilled cartridges, they might not provide the same quality as genuine HP ink.

3. Check Paper Quality

  • Ensure you’re using the right type of paper for your print job (e.g., inkjet-compatible, high-quality paper).
  • Paper stored in humid or damp conditions can also affect print quality.

4. Align Print Heads

  • Go to your printer’s settings and run the Print Head Alignment tool. Misaligned print heads can cause blurry or faded prints.

5. Update Firmware & Drivers

  • Check HP website for any firmware updates for your HP 4500 printer.
  • If you haven’t updated the drivers on your new Windows 11 PC, download the latest drivers from the HP support website.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
