My HP Envy 5530 printer is only printing in black. I have a new color cartridge installed.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your printer won’t print in color, especially after installing a new cartridge. Let’s go through a few steps to troubleshoot the issue and get your printer working properly again.

 

  • Have you checked the printer settings to ensure color printing is enabled?
  • Does the printer display any error messages related to ink or cartridges?
  • Have you tried running a test page or print head cleaning to check if the color ink is flowing correctly?

 

Let's try these steps. 

 

Check Printer Settings:

  • Open the print dialog on your computer and ensure the “Print in Grayscale” or “Black & White” option is not selected.
  • Go to Printer Preferences and set the print mode to "Color."

Run a Printhead Cleaning:

  • On the printer control panel, navigate to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Print a test page to see if colors start appearing.

Reinstall the Cartridge Properly:

  • Remove the color cartridge and reinstall it, ensuring it clicks into place securely.
  • Check if the protective plastic strip was fully removed from the new cartridge.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer.
  • If the issue persists, remove the printer from your system and reinstall it using the HP Smart app or the driver installation package.

Check Ink Levels and Cartridge Authenticity:

  • Print a diagnostic page from Setup > Reports > Print Quality Report to check ink levels.
  • Ensure you're using genuine HP cartridges, as non-HP or refilled cartridges might not function properly.
