I have an HP Envy 6000e printer which uses ink cartridges labelled 305 which print successfully. I have tried using a larger capacity ink cartridge labelled 67/305 but this does not print, although it fits the printer. Any ideas would be welcome. Thank you.

Hi @Fraser80,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the issue may be related to compatibility between the 67/305 ink cartridges and your HP Envy 6000e printer. Here's a breakdown of why this could be happening.

  • Cartridge Compatibility: Although the 67/305 cartridge physically fits, it may not be fully compatible with the printer's software or firmware. HP printers are designed to work with specific cartridges, and even though the 67/305 cartridge is labeled as compatible with similar models, some printers may only recognize the smaller 305 cartridges.
  • Firmware or Software Restrictions: HP printers often have firmware that recognizes certain cartridge models. If the printer's firmware is not updated to support the 67/305 cartridges, the printer might not register them properly, even if they fit.
  • Cartridge Recognition: Some HP printers may not recognize non-genuine or third-party cartridges, or larger capacity versions of cartridges like the 67/305. In some cases, even though the cartridge appears to fit and is designed for use in the printer model, the printer may not correctly detect it or may fail to initialize it properly.
  • Cartridge Chips: Ink cartridges, especially higher capacity ones, contain chips that communicate with the printer to track ink levels and verify compatibility. If the chip on the 67/305 cartridge is not being correctly recognized or is incompatible, the printer may not allow printing.

To resolve the issue, try the following:

  • Update Printer Firmware: Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date, as newer updates may improve cartridge compatibility.
  • Check for Cartridge Authenticity: Verify that the 67/305 cartridge is a genuine HP product. Sometimes, counterfeit or refilled cartridges can cause issues.
  • Reinstall Cartridges: Remove the 67/305 cartridge, reset the printer, and then reinstall it. If the issue persists, try reinstalling the 305 cartridge again to see if it works correctly.

If this issue continues, you may want to consider using the standard 305 cartridges, as they are the ones that are known to work reliably with your HP Envy 6000e printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I am having issues printing on my HP Envy 6420e printer. I have just replaced my cartridges with HP 67/305 cartridges. They are larger than standard and thus more cost effective.

Hi @Fraser80 ,

I understand you've replaced the cartridges in your HP Envy 6420e printer with the larger HP 67/305 cartridges. While these cartridges may be more cost-effective, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Compatibility: Ensure that the HP 67/305 cartridges are specifically compatible with the HP Envy 6420e printer model. Even though they are larger, they should still fit, but you should verify if they are supported by your printer.
  • Cartridge Installation: Double-check that the new cartridges are installed correctly and seated properly in their slots. If they are not installed correctly, the printer may not be able to detect or use them.
  • Printer Settings/Software: After replacing the cartridges, make sure that your printer's settings or any software (e.g., HP Smart) have been updated to reflect the new cartridge model.
  • Ink Level Detection: If the printer isn't detecting the new cartridges or showing them as empty, try resetting the printer to see if that resolves the issue.

If you're still experiencing issues, let me know if any error messages are appearing, or if you need further assistance troubleshooting.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

If there are some problems of compatibility with the cartridges HP 67/305, why HP commercialize them?

On the other hand, how can I update the software of my printer HP ENVY6022e?
