Hi @srikumarsrao

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 7640 printer is no longer printing in color when you make copies using the color option, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.

  • Check Ink Levels: Ensure that your color ink cartridges have enough ink. Low ink levels might prevent the printer from producing color prints. Most printers, including the HP Envy 7640, allow you to check ink levels either through the printer's display panel or through the accompanying software on your computer.
  • Clean Print Heads: Over time, print heads can become clogged with dried ink, which can affect color printing. Many printers have a built-in utility that allows you to clean the print heads. You can usually find this option in the printer's settings menu.
  • Alignment: Misaligned print heads can also result in poor color printing. Check if your printer has an alignment function and perform an alignment if necessary.
  • Check Settings: Ensure that you have selected the color printing option when making copies. Sometimes, settings might inadvertently get changed, causing the printer to default to grayscale or black and white.
  • Update Drivers and Firmware: Outdated drivers or firmware can cause printing issues. Visit the official HP website and make sure you have the latest drivers and firmware installed for your printer model.
  • Restart Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve minor glitches in the printer's software.
  • Inspect Color Settings on Copies: If you're making color copies from a computer, check the color settings in the print dialog box. Ensure that you have selected the correct color mode (color or grayscale) and that the settings are configured correctly.
  • Test from Different Sources: Try printing color documents from different sources (such as a computer, smartphone, or tablet) to determine if the issue is specific to one source or across all devices.
  • Check Cartridge Contacts: Make sure the color ink cartridges are properly seated in their slots. Sometimes, poor contact can prevent the printer from detecting the cartridges correctly.
  • Reset Printer: If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting the printer to its default settings. Refer to the printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
