I have had this error before, with other hp cartridges. I have installed BRAND NEW HP CARTRIDGES, I am sick of this problem over & over, with 3 different printers now. I am tired of spending money on a new printer because of the cheap Chinese made cartridges that ruin my printers. I will NEVER, EVER BE BUYING ANOTHE HP PRINTER....EVER....STEP OFF.

I'm having the same issue. My husband and I have been trying to trouble-shoot it for over an hour, trying all the recommended solutions online, without any resolution. At over $30 for each cartridge, this is OUTRAGEOUS. Furthermore, since the printer is a couple years old and out of warranty, HP won't do anything to help nor refund for a bad cartridge. Will be buying a new non-HP printer.

If you have already performed the steps from the document Error Indicates Faulty Ink Cartridge and the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

 

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Bought new black HP 62 cartridges for my HP Envy 7640.  Put in the new black ink cartridge and get "Ink Cartridge Problem "message.  I check the ink level and it is not reading cartridge based on red circle with X at top of black cartridge.  I tried both new cartridges no success. When I put in the old cartridge that was low on ink it reads it with no ink problem message appearing and is recognized in the ink level just showing the ink low.  I put in another old cartridge that was low and it reads that one also.

 

I have cleaned the contacts, done the hard start and done the update and still get "Ink Cartridge Problem".   

My two new cartridges cost $35 are they bad ?   or is there another issue with printer ?

The instruction you gave are not for the HP ENVY 7640.  It does not appear on the list ?

Please try these steps to clean the printhead

 

Load Letter or A4 unused plain white paper into the input tray. b. From the printer control panel display, touch Setup . c. Touch Printer Maintenance , select Clean Printhead, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

 

If the issue persists please contact HP Support in your region for service options
