I have owned this printer with flawless operation for several years. Always used genuine HP print cartridges. Went to replace the black cartridge, 950XL Z10, but after inserting the exact same cartridge I have always used, the printer is now telling me I have a problem with the printer or ink. If I put the old empty cartridge back in knowing the printer cannot print, the printer will turn on after a restart and open properly allowing me to see the print menu, no problem. So, I'm thinking the new cartridge has a problem, can't tell what, so I bought another new 950XL Z10 cartridge and the same thing happens. Tells me I have problem and won't start. Makes no sense. Has anyone experienced this before. Perfectly operating printer one minute and has an ink issue the next. What can I do to fix this??

Hi @DonV1949,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating to encounter such an issue with your printer, especially after using it flawlessly for several years. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.
- Check for Packaging Errors: Ensure that the packaging of the new cartridges matches that of the previous ones you've used. Sometimes, packaging errors can lead to compatibility issues.
- Clean the Contacts: Make sure the contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer are clean. Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the contacts. Avoid touching the nozzles or copper-colored contacts with your fingers.
- Reset the Printer: Try resetting the printer to its default settings. You can usually find this option in the printer's menu or settings. Refer to your printer's user manual for specific instructions on how to perform a reset.
- Update Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues with newer cartridges. You can usually update the firmware through the printer's menu or by visiting the HP website.
By systematically going through these steps, you should hopefully be able to identify and resolve the issue with your printer not recognizing the new genuine HP 950XL cartridges.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hello,
I have the same problem with HP Officejet Pro 8610 printer (CN55DF32SX) and 950XL Z20 black cartridge. I tried 4 refills (3x original in the Alza store - of which 1 was advertised and 1x in the authorized hpobchod store). When replacing it, I got errors that either the cartridge was used in another printer, or the cartridge is defective. I changed all three color cartridges at the same time (05/06/2024), and the printer loaded them without errors (just when testing, resetting and replacing the black cartridges, the capacity of two 951XL cartridges dropped to almost half, and one ordinary 951 is almost empty). Can you please help me?
