Hi @StephenG55
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the cartridge light on your HP Smart Tank 6001 is blinking and the printer won't print, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Check Ink Levels
- Make sure that the ink levels are sufficient. Even if the printer is new, it's good to verify that the cartridges are filled adequately.
2. Reinstall the Cartridges
- Turn off the printer and unplug it. Remove the ink cartridges and reinstall them, ensuring they are seated properly.
3. Remove Protective Tape
- If you haven't already, check that any protective tape or plastic covering the ink nozzles and contacts has been removed.
4. Clean the Cartridge Contacts
- Use a lint-free cloth to gently clean the gold contacts on the ink cartridges and the corresponding contacts in the printer.
5. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
6. Check for Software Issues
- Ensure that your printer drivers are up to date. Go to the HP website and check for any available software or firmware updates for your printer model.
7. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. It can help diagnose and fix common printing issues.
8. Inspect for Error Messages
- Check the printer's display (if applicable) for any specific error messages that might give more insight into the problem.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
