Hi @Kwood916,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand how disappointing it is when you’ve just installed a new cartridge, and your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 still refuses to print blue. Sorry to hear about the trouble, We’re here to help and want to get this resolved quickly so your printer performs the way it should.

Please check the steps below and try:

1. Use Genuine HP Ink

  • Ensure the cartridge is a genuine HP cartridge.
  • Non-HP or refilled cartridges can cause colour issues or be unrecognised.

2. Check Estimated Ink Levels

  • On the printer screen:
    • Tap the Ink icon or go to Settings > Ink Levels.
    • Confirm the cyan or colour cartridge isn't showing empty or low.

3. Run a Printhead Nozzle Check

  • On the printer control panel:
    • Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Print Quality Report.
    • Look for missing blue/cyan lines in the colour blocks.

4. Clean the Printhead

If cyan is missing on the print quality report:

  1. Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
  2. Let the cleaning cycle run.
  3. Print another Print Quality Report.
  4. If needed, repeat up to 3 times.

⚠️ Be patient between cycles — too many in a row can use up ink quickly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Kwood916,

Sorry to hear that you still have trouble. Please try the steps below and let me know.

Please remove the Cartridges from the Printer if possible, and try a Hard Reset. Do keep us posted to help you better

** Hard reset :
1. Turn the printer on if it is not already on.
2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
5. Wait at least 60 seconds.
6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
8. Turn on the printer if it does not automatically turn on. The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
9. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

HP Smart App: Please uninstall the HP Smart app --> restart the Device, Wi-Fi router and printer, --> reinstall it and add the printer.

HP Firmware Update: Please update the Firmware from the link. This will help to update the firmware on the printer or devices.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
