Hi @Godaleo ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the "E" error on your HP DeskJet 4100 Series printer indicates a problem preventing printing. Here are some common causes and fixes:

1. Check the Printer Display Panel for Additional Error Codes

  • If the E is flashing alongside a number (e.g., E1, E2, etc.), let me know the exact code so I can provide specific steps.

2. Check for Paper Issues

  • Make sure there is paper loaded correctly in the input tray.
  • Remove and reload the paper, ensuring it's aligned properly.
  • Check for any paper jams inside the printer (open the rear access panel if needed).
  • Try using fresh, smooth, standard-size paper.

3. Check the Ink Cartridges

  • Open the ink cartridge access door and ensure that both cartridges (black and color) are properly seated.
  • If they are not installed correctly, remove and reinsert them.
  • If the error persists, clean the cartridge contacts:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Remove the cartridges.
    3. Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.
    4. Let them dry completely before reinserting.

4. Restart the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

5. Check the Printer Queue & Connection

  • If printing is stuck, clear the print queue:
    • Open Control PanelDevices and Printers → Right-click on your printer → See what's printingCancel all documents.
  • Ensure your printer is properly connected via WiFi or USB.

6. Reset the Printer

If none of the above steps work, try a printer reset:

  1. With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall.
  2. Wait for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on.

If the issue persists, if there are any additional flashing lights or specific error codes (e.g., E1, E2, E3).

Refer to this document:  HP DeskJet 2700, 4100, 4800 printers - Blinking lights and error codes

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
