Hi @Godaleo ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting the "E" error on your HP DeskJet 4100 Series printer indicates a problem preventing printing. Here are some common causes and fixes:
1. Check the Printer Display Panel for Additional Error Codes
- If the E is flashing alongside a number (e.g., E1, E2, etc.), let me know the exact code so I can provide specific steps.
2. Check for Paper Issues
- Make sure there is paper loaded correctly in the input tray.
- Remove and reload the paper, ensuring it's aligned properly.
- Check for any paper jams inside the printer (open the rear access panel if needed).
- Try using fresh, smooth, standard-size paper.
3. Check the Ink Cartridges
- Open the ink cartridge access door and ensure that both cartridges (black and color) are properly seated.
- If they are not installed correctly, remove and reinsert them.
- If the error persists, clean the cartridge contacts:
- Turn off the printer.
- Remove the cartridges.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.
- Let them dry completely before reinserting.
4. Restart the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
5. Check the Printer Queue & Connection
- If printing is stuck, clear the print queue:
- Open Control Panel → Devices and Printers → Right-click on your printer → See what's printing → Cancel all documents.
- Ensure your printer is properly connected via WiFi or USB.
6. Reset the Printer
If none of the above steps work, try a printer reset:
- With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
If the issue persists, if there are any additional flashing lights or specific error codes (e.g., E1, E2, E3).

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
