Hi @Lisa_63,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP Photosmart 5524 printer is having issues with the magenta ink not being printed correctly. This can result from a few possible issues, such as clogged printheads, incorrect ink installation, or software issues.
Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem:
1. Check the Ink Cartridges
- Ensure the magenta ink cartridge is properly installed.
- Verify that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges.
2. Run the Printhead Cleaning Tool
- On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead. This tool will attempt to clean the printheads and may resolve any clogs.
3. Check for Clogs
- Manually clean the printhead if the automated tool doesn't work. This involves removing the printhead and gently cleaning it with distilled water and a lint-free cloth.
4. Perform a Printer Reset
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on.
5. Update or Reinstall Printer Software
- Ensure your printer software is up to date.
- On your iOS device, remove the printer from the list of printers and reinstall it.
6. Print a Test Page
- Print a test page to check if the magenta ink is being used correctly. Go to Setup > Tools > Print Quality Report.
Detailed Steps:
Ensure Proper Installation of Ink Cartridges:
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Ensure the magenta ink cartridge is seated correctly.
- Make sure the protective tape has been removed from the cartridge.
Run Printhead Cleaning Tool:
- On the printer’s display, navigate to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the cleaning process.
Manual Cleaning:
- Remove the ink cartridges.
- Remove the printhead and gently clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
- Reinsert the printhead and cartridges, and run the cleaning tool again.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
Update or Reinstall Printer Software on iOS:
- Open the Settings app on your iOS device.
- Go to Printers & Scanners or Print & Scan.
- Select your HP Photosmart 5524 and remove it.
- Go to the HP website and download the latest drivers for your printer.
- Reinstall the printer on your iOS device.
Print a Test Page:
- On the printer’s display, go to Setup > Tools > Print Quality Report.
- Check if the magenta color is printed correctly.
