Hi @pahdc,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP OfficeJet 4650 is not printing from either your computer or directly from the printer, there could be several potential issues.
Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot:
Check for Errors or Warnings:
- Ensure that there are no error messages or warnings on the printer's display. If there are, follow the instructions provided to resolve them.
Verify Printer Status:
- Make sure the printer is set as the default printer on your computer. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers on Windows, right-click your printer, and select "Set as default printer."
Check Printer Connectivity:
- Ensure the printer is properly connected to your network (for wireless printers) or directly to your computer (for USB printers). If it's a wireless printer, check that it is connected to the same network as your computer.
Printer Queue:
- Open the Printer Queue on your computer and check if there are any pending print jobs. If there are, try canceling them and then try printing a new document.
Restart Devices:
- Restart your printer and computer. Sometimes a simple restart can resolve connectivity or communication issues.
Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Go to Device Manager on your computer, find your printer under "Printers," right-click it, and select "Update driver." Alternatively, you can download and install the latest drivers from the HP website.
Check for Firmware Updates: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Visit the HP website to check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer and install them if necessary.
Check Ink or Toner Levels:
- Make sure there is enough ink or toner in your printer. Low or empty cartridges can sometimes cause printing issues.
Printer Self-Test:
- Try running a self-test or diagnostic print from the printer’s control panel. This can help identify if the issue is with the printer hardware itself.
Factory Reset:
- If none of the above steps work, you might consider performing a factory reset on the printer. Refer to the printer’s manual or HP's support website for instructions on how to do this.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
