Hi, I recently got given a 2 hand HP DeskJet 2630 to which I added new original HP cartridges for B&W and colour. When I print the support information it prints in color, but if I use my phone or laptop to try to print something, it only gives me the option of gray scale. i’d like to know if anyone can help with this problem

Hi @IsadoraDios
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for explaining the situation so clearly—this is a common issue with second-hand printers or fresh driver installs. Since your HP DeskJet 2630 prints in color during internal tests but only offers grayscale from your devices, the problem is almost certainly software-related, not hardware.
Let’s walk through a few targeted steps to restore full color printing:
Step-by-Step Fix for Missing Color Option
1. Check Print Settings on Your Laptop
Sometimes the default print mode is set to grayscale.
- Open the document you want to print
- Go to File > Print > Printer Properties (or Preferences)
- Look for a setting like:
- Color Options → Select Color (not grayscale or black ink only)
- Print in Grayscale → Uncheck this box
- Save and print again
2. Reinstall the Full Feature Driver
If you're using a generic or basic driver, color options may be missing.
- Visit the HP DeskJet 2630 Driver Page
- Download the Full Feature Software and Drivers
- Uninstall any existing HP printer software first
- Install the new package and restart your laptop
This ensures full access to color profiles and print settings.
3. Check Mobile App Settings
If printing from your phone:
- Open the HP Smart app
- Select your printer > Print Documents
- Tap the Settings icon before printing
- Make sure Color is selected—not grayscale or black ink only
4. Try Printing from a Different App
Some apps (especially PDF viewers or browsers) default to grayscale.
- Try printing from Word, Photos, or HP Smart
- If color works there, the issue is app-specific
If you’ve done all this and still can’t print in color, let me know your operating system (Windows, macOS, Android, iOS) and I’ll guide you through app-specific fixes.
You’re doing everything right—and we’ll get your DeskJet printing in full color again.
