Hi @Mom20061,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with the new black ink cartridge or with the printer’s ink system. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:
- Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the new cartridge is installed correctly. Remove the cartridge and reinsert it, making sure it clicks into place.
- Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Turn off the printer and unplug it. Remove the black ink cartridge and gently clean the contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer using a soft, lint-free cloth or a cotton swab moistened with distilled water. Allow everything to dry completely before reinserting the cartridge.
- Reset the Printer: Sometimes a reset can help. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up-to-date. Visit the HP website or use the HP Smart app to check for and install any available updates. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Perform a Printer Maintenance: Run a printhead cleaning or alignment process from the printer's control panel or through the HP Smart app. This can sometimes help resolve issues with ink not being recognized.
- Verify Cartridge Compatibility: Make sure the new cartridge is the correct model for your printer. Even though it’s a new cartridge, using a compatible one is crucial.
- Try a Different Cartridge: If possible, try a different black ink cartridge to determine if the issue is with the cartridge itself.
