My HP Envy Photo 7858 printer was only printing black and white, I replaced the color ink and it still will not print color. I have now cleaned the printer heads and as I cleaned them my black also is no longer printing.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Envy Photo 7858 print issue!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP Envy Photo 7858 printer is experiencing ink flow issues. Here are a few troubleshooting steps to resolve this:

Check Ink Levels

  • Even though you replaced the color cartridge, double-check that all ink cartridges (black and color) have sufficient ink.
  • On the printer’s touchscreen, go to Setup > Ink Levels to verify.

Ensure Cartridges Are Installed Correctly

  • Remove and reinsert both the black and color cartridges, ensuring they click into place properly.
  • Use genuine HP cartridges to avoid compatibility issues.

Run a Print Head Cleaning Again

  • Since cleaning the print heads stopped black ink from printing, the nozzles may still be clogged.
  • Run another cleaning cycle through the printer’s menu:
    • Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead
    • You may need to do this 2-3 times to fully restore ink flow.

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait for 3-5 minutes and then plug it back in.
  3. Turn the printer on and try a test print.

Align the Printhead

  • Sometimes, misalignment can cause ink flow problems.
  • Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Align Printhead and follow the on-screen instructions.

Print a Test Page

  • Try printing a Print Quality Diagnostic Report:
    • Setup > Reports > Print Quality Report
    • This will help check which colors are not printing properly.

Manually Clean the Printhead (If Needed)

If cleaning cycles don’t work, you may need to manually clean the printhead:

  • Remove the ink cartridges and gently wipe the printhead contacts with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
  • Let it dry before reinserting.

Check Printer Settings

  • If your printer is still not printing color, ensure it’s not set to Grayscale or Black & White Mode in the printer settings.
  • On your computer, go to Printer Preferences > Paper/Quality and select Color.

Let me know if you need further guidance!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
