Hello,

I just bought a printer and I cannot print says there is a problem with the new cartridges that came with the printer.

Anybody else have this problems?

What is the solution?

Kind regards

Derrick

@derricklynch, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

1. Check Cartridge Installation

  • Ensure Proper Installation: Double-check that the cartridges are installed properly. Open the printer's ink cartridge door and remove the cartridges. Reinstall them, making sure they click into place securely.
  • Correct Cartridge Model: Make sure that the cartridges are the correct ones for your HP OfficeJet Pro 9720e. Sometimes, the wrong model might be included in the box.

2. Check for Cartridge Protective Tape

  • New cartridges often come with a protective tape covering the ink nozzles. Make sure you removed all the protective plastic tape from the cartridges before installation.

3. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power outlet.
  • Wait for 30 seconds: Leave it unplugged for a short time.
  • Turn it back on: Plug the printer back in and power it on.

4. Check for Cartridge Errors

  • Printer Display Panel: Check the printer’s screen (if it has one) for any error messages related to the cartridges (such as "Cartridge Error" or "Cartridge Not Recognized").
  • If you see any specific error, take note of it, as this will help guide the troubleshooting.

5. Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off the Printer and remove the cartridges.
  • Clean the contacts on both the printer and the cartridges. Use a lint-free cloth and lightly dampen it with water (not too wet). Gently wipe the contacts where the cartridges connect to the printer.
  • Reinstall the Cartridges and try printing again.

6. Check for Ink Cartridge Compatibility

  • Verify that the cartridges are genuine HP ink cartridges. Third-party or counterfeit cartridges can cause issues.
  • You can check the cartridge number on the HP website or your printer's manual to confirm compatibility.

7. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings

  • If nothing works, consider resetting your printer to factory settings. This can resolve issues related to software or settings conflicts.
  • To reset the printer, go to the Settings menu on the printer’s control panel and look for the Restore Defaults or Reset option. Follow the on-screen instructions.

8. Update the Printer Firmware

  • Check for Firmware Updates: Outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues with new cartridges.
  • You can update the firmware by visiting the HP website and downloading the latest firmware for your printer model, or by going to the HP Smart app if you're using it for printing.
