Hi @Fergus55

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your new HP Envy Inspire 7221e is not printing cyan, even after aligning and cleaning the print heads, here are some additional steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Check Ink Levels

  • Make sure the cyan cartridge is properly installed and has ink. Sometimes, even new cartridges can be low or empty. You can check the ink levels via the printer's control panel or the HP Smart app.

2. Remove and Reseat the Cartridge

  • Turn off the printer and carefully remove the cyan cartridge.
  • Check for any protective tape that might not have been removed. Clean the gold contacts on the cartridge and the printer with a lint-free cloth.
  • Reinsert the cartridge firmly and ensure it clicks into place.

3. Print Quality Diagnostic Page

  • Print a diagnostic page to check if the cyan ink is functioning:
    • From the printer menu, navigate to Tools or Maintenance and select Print Quality Report.
    • Examine the report for any issues with cyan printing.

4. Run the Clean Printheads Cycle

  • You mentioned you've cleaned the heads, but you can try running the clean printheads cycle again:
    • Go to the printer’s menu, find Tools or Maintenance, and select Clean Printheads.

5. Check for Software Issues

  • Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed. You can download them from the HP Support website.
  • If printing from a computer, check that the print settings are set to print in color and not grayscale.

6. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve printing issues. Check for updates through the HP Smart app or the HP Support website.

7. Reset the Printer

  • Perform a hard reset:
    • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello,

I tried all of your suggested solutions but to no avail.

1. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with the HP Envy Inspire 7221e however all colours, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow are in the one cartridge and all 3 colours are showing the same level, at 3/4 full.

2. I have removed the cartridge and cleaned the head and the gold contacts with a lint free cloth. When cleaning the head ALL 3 colours appeared on the cloth.

3. I have printed the Quality Diagnostic Page and NO issues were reported and also NO Cyan!

4. I have the Clean Printheads Cycle and NO Cyan!

5. How do I know what the “latest printer drivers” are?!?

6. I have checked for Firmware updates and while it appears there is an update, version 002.2349A I can download it, however when i get to the “HP Firmware Updater” I get a message, “Cannot update the device, This Firmware Updater doe not contain upgrades for your device”.

What now?

Hi @Fergus55,

Thank you for your response. It sounds like you’ve already done a thorough job troubleshooting the cyan printing issue with your HP Envy Inspire 7221e. Here are a few more steps you can take:

1. Check Cartridge Compatibility

  • Ensure that the cartridge you're using is compatible with your printer model. Sometimes, cartridges can look similar but may not work correctly with all printer models.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Unplug the printer from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in. This can sometimes reset any internal issues.

3. Try a Different Cartridge

  • If possible, try using a new or known-good tri-color cartridge to see if that resolves the issue. Since you've indicated that all three colors are showing similar levels, the cartridge itself may be malfunctioning.

4. Inspect for Clogs

  • After cleaning the printhead, check for any visible clogs or debris that might not have come off. You may also consider running a more extensive cleaning cycle if available.

5. Check Printer Drivers

  • To ensure you have the latest printer drivers:
    • Visit the HP Support website.
    • Enter your printer model (HP Envy Inspire 7221e) and navigate to the Drivers & Software section.
    • Download and install the latest drivers for your operating system.

6. Firmware Update

  • Since the firmware updater didn't recognize an upgrade, it might indicate that your printer's firmware is already up to date.

If the issue persists, it might be a hardware-related issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
