HP ENVY 6010e All-in-One Printer

I have been buying cartridges {original} but I have noticed that without using the printer the cartridge says it's empty after a month "with no use!!"
I find this ridiculous because every time I start up the printer and it ALIGNS and does two test pages the ink is PERFECT on the test pages
I can now not even print as the printer says there is NOT enough ink. This feels like a scam for printer owner just to buy more ink cartridges. Can anyone help me with this matter - My printer is the HP ENVY 6000 series all in one

Hi @Annoyeduser24,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with ink issues like that! There are a few things you can do to potentially solve this problem with your HP ENVY 6000 series printer:

Check Printer Settings: Some printers are set by default to perform regular cleaning cycles which use up ink. You can look into the printer settings via the HP software on your computer to see if there is an option to reduce the frequency of these maintenance tasks.

Update Printer Firmware: Sometimes, issues with ink management can be due to outdated firmware. Check for any available updates for your printer's firmware and install them.

Use Printer Regularly: Inkjet printers often face issues with ink drying up if not used regularly. Try to print something at least once a week to keep the ink flowing and prevent the nozzles from drying out.

Manual Cleaning: Instead of relying on the automatic cleaning cycles, you can manually clean the printer heads when you notice degradation in print quality. This approach uses less ink than automatic cleaning cycles.

Refill Cartridges: If the cost of original cartridges is too high, you might consider using refill services or buying refill kits. However, be aware that using non-original ink can sometimes affect print quality and could potentially void your warranty.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you Rachel for your response. Although I find it not very helpful as we have not printed often and even with test pages it still doesn't result in many prints. The queue to buy a cartridge otherwise I cannot print is simply unacceptable. It seems to be rigged to make people buy more cartridges as this is not a one off incident.
I am very disappointed with this process and incessant need to buy cartridges even when the printer is not used or even 'ON'.

Hi @Annoyeduser24 ,

Thank you for your response. We do not intend to let you down 😞
I understand you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your printer consuming ink at a rate that feels unusually high, especially given the low frequency of usage

There are a few potential explanations and solutions you might consider:

Ink Drying and Maintenance Cycles: Even when not actively printing, many inkjet printers run periodic maintenance cycles that can consume ink. These cycles are meant to prevent the ink from drying out in the nozzles, which can lead to clogs and poor print quality. Unfortunately, this does mean ink is used even when the printer is idle.

Cartridge Design and Printer Settings: Some printers are designed to be more ink-efficient than others. Also, the type of cartridges used can impact how quickly ink is consumed. Check if your printer has settings for ink saving, such as printing in draft mode for non-essential documents, which uses less ink.

Printer Firmware and Software Updates: Sometimes, HP release firmware or software updates that can improve the efficiency of ink usage. Check if there are any available updates for your printer that might address this issue. https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

I hope this helps.

This information is completely useless.

I've never experienced a printer that has such consistent problems with just ink cartridges. Are ink printers new technology or something?

HP - figure out how to make this problem go away; i'm about to get rid of your printer and replace with something that is *MODERATELY* reliable.

This is an unacceptable response - why is this problem so consistent?

Printers from the 90's don't have this problem.
