I'm having trouble printing any color other than yellow on my documents. All signs point to a clogged or dirty printhead, but cleaning them doesn't work. I want to just replace them, but I can't access them since they don't move to the middle when the printer door is open.

Hi @frenzeric,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing trouble with your HP Smart Tank Plus 651 printer where it's not printing colors other than yellow, and you suspect a clogged or dirty printhead but can't access them, here are some steps you can try.

Clean the Printhead Manually:

  • Power Off: Ensure your printer is powered off and unplugged for safety.
  • Printhead Access: Open the printer as you normally would to access the printheads.
  • Manually Clean: Use a lint-free cloth or paper towel dampened with distilled water to gently clean the printhead. Be very careful not to damage any sensitive components.
  • Printhead Nozzles: Pay special attention to the nozzles and the copper-colored contacts on the printhead.
  • Let it Dry: Allow the printhead to dry completely before reinstalling it.

Use HP Printer Software:

  • Install and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool, which can help diagnose and resolve common printing problems.

Replace the Printhead:

  • If manual cleaning doesn't resolve the issue, you may need to replace the printhead. However, as you mentioned, accessing the printhead can be tricky if it doesn't move to the middle.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Ensure there are no obstructions or debris blocking the printhead's movement. Gently look inside the printer for any foreign objects that may be preventing the printhead from moving to the center.

Printer Reset:

  • Try performing a printer reset. Unplug the printer from the power source, wait for a few minutes, and then plug it back in. This can sometimes help resolve issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
