Cyan cartridge needed to be replaced on wireless connected 8600 pro printer. Ordered one thru Amazon HP store. When inserted, I got a message that said the ink or the printer was broken (paraphrased). I put the empty cartridge in and it recognized it but said it was out of ink. Thought the contacts for the new one were bad so ordered another one and the same error message.
Was considering ordering a Cyan cartridge from HP site, but they may want a restocking fee so I am hesitant.
I updated drivers, have done everything I can think of. Next step is new printer.
Anyone else have this issue and was it resolved?

Hi @Mark_Lewis,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Experiencing issues where a new HP Cyan cartridge is not being recognized by an HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.
- Check Cartridge Compatibility: Make sure that the cartridge you are trying to install is compatible with your specific printer model. Cartridges are often designed for specific printer series, so double-check the packaging and documentation to ensure compatibility.
- Proper Installation: Ensure that you have properly inserted the cartridge into the correct slot. Sometimes cartridges might not make proper contact if not installed correctly.
- Clean Cartridge Contacts: Ink residue or dust can accumulate on the metal contacts of the cartridge, preventing proper communication with the printer. Gently wipe the contacts with a clean, lint-free cloth to remove any debris.
- Restart Printer: Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few minutes, and then plug it back in. This can help reset the printer's internal memory and potentially resolve communication issues.
- Update Firmware/Software: Make sure your printer's firmware and driver software are up-to-date. Outdated firmware might not recognize new cartridges correctly. You can visit the HP support website and search for the latest updates for your printer model.
- Try Another Cartridge: If you have access to another cartridge of the same type, try installing that one to determine if the issue lies with the cartridge itself or with the printer.
- Reset Printer: Some printers have a reset option in the settings menu. You can try resetting the printer to its default settings, which might help resolve cartridge recognition issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
