Hi @wkesplat

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Deskjet 4155e All-in-One printer is having an issue where it's only printing in light blue instead of black or other colors. This could be due to several factors, including cartridge issues, incorrect settings, or alignment problems. Here are steps you can follow to troubleshoot and correct the issue:

Step 1: Check Ink Cartridges

  • Ensure the Ink Cartridges are Installed Correctly: Open the printer and check that both the black and color cartridges are installed properly. Remove and reinstall them to make sure they are seated correctly.
  • Check for Protective Tapes: New ink cartridges come with protective plastic tapes over the printhead. Make sure these tapes have been removed from the black and color cartridges.
  • Check Ink Levels: Use the HP Smart app (or your printer’s control panel) to check the ink levels. Low or empty ink cartridges can cause the printer to misprint colors.

Step 2: Run an Ink Cartridge Alignment

Improper alignment of the printhead could cause color misprints or incomplete printing.

  1. Open the HP Smart app or printer control panel.
  2. Go to the Printer Maintenance section.
  3. Look for an option called Align Printhead or Align Cartridges.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to align the printhead and cartridges.

Step 3: Clean the Printhead

Sometimes, printhead clogging can lead to incorrect colors or faint prints. Running a printhead cleaning process might help.

  1. Open the HP Smart app (or use the printer’s display panel).
  2. Go to Printer Settings > Tools.
  3. Look for an option to Clean Printhead or Clean Cartridges.
  4. Follow the instructions to clean the printhead.

Step 4: Check Print Settings

Ensure that the print settings on your computer or in the app aren’t set to print only in one color or a low-quality draft mode.

  1. Open the document you want to print.
  2. Go to File > Print.
  3. In the print dialog, select the correct printer (HP Deskjet 4155e).
  4. Click on Printer Properties or Preferences.
  5. Under the Color settings, ensure that Color is selected and Black & White or Grayscale is not accidentally selected.
  6. Check that the Quality is set to Normal or Best (not Draft, which can cause faded prints).

Take care and have a good day.
