HP Smart Tank 7602 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

This may not be the correct category, but Tank Printer and Printer Ink Cartridges & Print Quality were the only ones that came close to my issues.

I just opened a new HP 7602 All in One Printer this afternoon and while going through the setup, per the instructions, it was time to fill the tanks prior to inserting the two printer heads.

I filled the black tank first, then yellow, magenta and then cyan.  Afterwards the printer said that the yellow tank was not sufficiently full enough to run the rest of the setup.  I used all of the bottle ink that came with the new printer and even purchased one more bottle of 31 yellow from Staples.  With just a BIT of added yellow, all the gurgling stopped and the tank was FULL FULL... When I pulled it up on my desktop, it showed that all the tanks were full except for the yellow, which was outlined in red and showed empty.

Also, the "indicated" tank, I'm assuming that's the one that's still lit up with the internal light, is the yellow tank.

I tried the CHAT this afternoon and it was a disaster for sure.  NO help and directed me to the free ink department.

I'm guessing that I have a defective printer right out of the box.  I cannot find anything online that has this type of an issue.  Since the tanks are "sealed" when the cap is down, I've also tried to tilt the printer in all four directions thinking it may be missing a sensor inside the tank, but that did not help.  I've also powered down many times and rebooted the printer with no different outcome.

I just ordered a second HP 7602 this afternoon for MY PC and this one I'm working on is for my wife's little office area.  Should I cancel the second purchase???

Thanks in advance.

Also the HP website still lists the HP 7602 and supporting Windows 7 on up.  My wife's HP laptop is still running Windows 7 and I just checked and it is NOT compatible with an upgrade to Windows 11.  I guess i could upgrade to Windows 10, but she only uses it for e-mails and Word etc.

Sorry for rambling on and on... 🙂

Hi @lckwd89,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your New Printer and Yellow Tank FULL Issues. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove the USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till the warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Update the printer firmware
