Brand new cartridges are giving me the cartridge depleted error, and I can’t get anything to print.

@lakegirl21, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your printer is not detecting the new cartridges properly. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the "cartridge depleted" error:

Check the Cartridge Installation:

  • Make sure the cartridges are installed correctly and firmly in place. If they aren't seated properly, the printer may not recognize them.

Remove and Reinstall Cartridges:

  • Turn off the printer and remove the cartridges. Wait for a minute, then reinsert them carefully, ensuring they are properly seated.

Clean the Contacts:

  • Gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and the printer using a lint-free cloth or cotton swab dipped in distilled water or rubbing alcohol. Dry them completely before reinstalling the cartridge.

Reset the Printer:

  • Power off the printer and unplug it for about 30 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on to reset the printer. This may help resolve any software or communication issues between the printer and the cartridge.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Sometimes a firmware update is needed to resolve cartridge recognition issues. Visit the HP website or use the HP Smart app to check if any updates are available for your printer.

Try Another New Cartridge:

  • If possible, test the printer with a different new cartridge.

Check for Cartridge Protection:

  • Some newer cartridges come with a protective strip or tape that must be removed before installation. Double-check that you’ve removed it properly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
