HP LaserJet Pro 200 color Printer M251n
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

A new cyan laser cartridge prompts me to register at HP, but fails to do so. The popup window gives the message: printer has no USB connection. But it has, it prints very well. Latest driver and programs, for Laser jet pro 200 M251n. Hasn't happened before. And yes I have gone through all steps of error search for the USB connection.

Hi @JnnnO,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your New cartridge will not register. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove the USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till the warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Update the printer firmware

  • Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your product
  • Click here to know different methods of updating the printer firmware.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks Gaya,

I will save your advice for the future.

While waiting for an answer I got in to other troubles with the printer and noticed somewhere a possible way how to fix it. It resembled much what you write, except for holding the button for 30 sec and not having a surge protector connected.

I have installed the latest firmware and it solved the other issue. But as the new cartridge isn't new any longer there is no way of registering it. Be that.

The new firmware doesn't include all of the old one, and some part doesn't work. For example is there no interface to manually adjust the quality of the print. The only pop up window I have access to is the Status and "warnings". And the link " support and troubleshooting" (http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-001&h_lang=sv&h_product=5097632&h_client=S-S-E001-1) is false, page not to be found. "Help and training center" doesn't open.

The printer is rather old so I don't expect much but it is nice to use it as long as possible.

I will follow your instructions and install again. And come back if more questions.

Bye!

Hi Gaya,
I have now performed a restart of the printer in the way you suggest. The new color cartridge will not show up for registration, which isn't a big problem.
But running through the different apps that are included in the software (or that I can see in the programs panel) and drivers package gives this result:
"Reconfigure the printer" (my language is Swedish so I don't know what it is in English) starts (HP Installer) and it finally says that "installation took too long, a severe fault hinders the product to be used".
"The product is connecting" says that the product is found and it starts working (configurating), should take several minutes. 99 % finished after about ten minutes, around five minutes later it stops with "error".
It doesn't run till the part "Configuration of the product".
"Status and warnings" will not open.
"HP product enhancement study" won't open.
"HP update" opens and says that I have the latest software installed.
"HP help and training center" doesn't open or connect to web.
"Shop HP utilities" opens but says that the model isn't correct, and refuses to open the link <https://www.hp.com/go/ordersupplies-na?AppName=DTSS>.
So, out of the six programs that is installed, only one works.
There is a thing that might cause trouble: My old printer "HP LaserJet CP1210" seems not been properly uninstalled and I can not do it because the CDROM it was installed from is thrown away of course.

When I look at the date for the above programs I notice that there is only three of them from 2023.

Can you tell me which of the programs that belong to CP1210 and which are for 200 color M251? And can you tell me how to uninstall the unwanted programs? Maybe it is the old software that is spooky?

Sorry, but everything has gotten worse.

Regards Janne

Gaya,

I have decided my problems solved so far as the printer works, I managed to delete old printers software, uninstall current drivers etc, and install the latest printer software, I have run tests that says that all is fine.

So, thank you for your kind support and have a great time.
